This exhibition at the Hammer Museum showcases roughly 150 drawings, paintings, sculptures, and textiles by Huguette Caland alongside archival materials. Organized by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid with the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, the show highlights the artist's unique defiance of social and sexual norms through her sensual creations. Born in Lebanon, married to a Frenchman, and choosing America as her home, Caland spent her final decades in Venice, California, before gaining broader attention following her inclusion in the Made in L.A. 2016 biennial.
