Featuring Eva Aguila
Active Cultures presents *Bajo la Huerta (Beneath the Orchard)*, a newly commissioned performance lecture by Los Angeles–based interdisciplinary artist Eva Aguila that digs into the hidden costs of the avocado trade. Blending video, sound, and image, Aguila traces the fruit’s journey from prehistoric giant ground sloths to USDA explorers and her family’s home state of Michoacán, where US demand has piled up damage to ecosystems and communities. Drawing on interviews with scientists and researchers, the piece asks what it really means to eat an avocado from Mexico.
