MoMA presents the first complete North American retrospective of Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa, showcasing his thirty-year career in fiction and nonfiction cinema. The program spans his observations of daily life in the Russian countryside to his reckonings with war, genocide, and historical amnesia, featuring award-winning works like Donbass, A Gentle Creature, and My Joy alongside two films inspired by the writings of W. G. Sebald. Filmmaker Julia Loktev will also join Loznitsa for an onstage conversation following the screening of State Funeral.
