Block Cinema screens Denis Mitchell’s 1965 documentary *The House on the Beach*, a rare look at the Santa Monica Synanon house—a refuge for recovering addicts that turned into a destructive cult. The film, which Mitchell presents without narration, captures daily communal life and the infamous “Synanon Game,” with additional 16mm works to be announced. It’s a compelling, unvarnished portrait from a documentarian Dennis Potter called “by far the most talented and humane” in television.
